The viral video footage shows several police cars and vans were in attendance and had closed the road to attend to the man using the construction equipment.

The cherry picker had been extended to roof height.

The man also allegedly assaulted an emergency service worker in the incident.

People gathered on the street could be heard saying in the video: "This is comedy gold.

"This is GTA's five-star business this."

Witnesses claimed the man was "just casually getting about" and "telling police officers to 'f off'."

Another said: "This is crazy, what the heck is going on right now?"

At least two people could be seen on the equipment as it came back down.

Greater Manchester Police confirmed officers were called to the incident and a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle.

A spokesperson for the force also said the man was arrested on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker.
