Bury Times: Police on scene last night

Officers were called to Abingdon Avenue, Whitefield, yesterday  at just after 5pm and found an 18-year-old was stabbed in his arm. At the time police said he had 'life-threatening injuries'.

A Section 60 has now been authorised while officers investigate.

These temporary additional powers allow police to stop and search anyone in the Sunny Bank, Lilly Hill, Unsworth, Oak Bank, Besses o’ th’ Barn, and Cowlgate Farn areas of Whitefield until 6pm today (29/03/2024).

Detective Superintendent Ben Ewart said: “Although we have made two arrests, our work is far from over and we are working round the clock to investigate thoroughly. A scene will remain in place while detectives gather evidence.

“We believe this was a targeted attack with no wider threat to the public.
