The "best of rural life and agriculture" will be on display in Bury once again at a hugely popular annual event this summer.

Bury Agricultural Show has been running for 85 years and draws in families and crowds of all ages to enjoy a variety of entertainment and competitions.

The event will return to Burrs Country Park on Sunday, June 30 from 9am to 4pm.

Organiser Karen Southwell, who has been on the show's committee for 15 years, said: “We hope to showcase the best of rural life and agriculture.

“There will be cattle, sheep, heavy horses, donkeys and dogs as well as a chainsaw carver, a heavy horse display team and a motorcycle stunt team.

“As with a lot of charities and events, it takes a lot of finance to put it in place and its very weather dependent.

“Any profit we make we donate to other charities.

"We’re really trying to push the show this year as there is a possibility we may not be able to continue if we don’t get support.”

The show only has five committee members who put the show together over a year, with volunteers helping out the week before the show and on actual show day.

The show has been struggling recently with rising costs and missing a year due to Covid-19.

Organisers are urging people to get involved with their arts and crafts section where they can enter any knitted, baked, crocheted, photographed items and similar goods to enter a competition to be judged.

Karen added: “We were one of the first events in 2021 that went ahead in Bury.

“We changed everything so that it met all the Covid policies which put extra costs for extra sanitation and signage.

“Myself and the others on the committee are very passionate and we don’t want to lose it.

“We know Bury isn’t a farming district but this is the only agricultural show in the Greater Manchester area and we just want to keep it going.”

Adult tickets are currently on sale for £8 and child tickets are £4.
