One lane is still closed on the M56 between junctions 14 and 12 after a lorry fire last night.

J14 Hapsford and J12 Runcorn saw major delays after the fire broke out, with thick smoke covering much of the motorway.

Work has also begun to repair the damage to the carriageway following the fire.

A spokesman said: "The M56 is currently closed in both directions between J14 (Hapsford) and J12 (Runcorn) while emergency services deal with a HGV fire.
