A restaurant and cafe with customers hailing from all over Greater Manchester has been nominated for an award.

Lupo Caffe Italiano in Prestwich has fast become a hit with people all over Greater Manchester including Bolton and Bury, for the authentic Italian food and coffee.

Founder of the Mountheath Industrial Estate venue, Nico Lupo, prides himself on using homegrown veg and locally sourced ingredients.

The establishment has been nominated in The Good Food Guide’s Top 100 Best Local Restaurant 2024.

Nico specialises in Italian coffee, having studied coffee in great detail over the years.

He said of the nomination: “I feel very happy about it.

“I am looking forward to winning and when we first opened, we got an award for the best coffee shop in Manchester, so we are known here.

“People still support us because we are consistent and keep people very interested.

“You can have the best Italian meal that you can dream of.”

It all started for Nico on Chapel Street in Salford, then at the Quays.

But after the Covid lockdown, he realised fewer people would be eating out, and closed down.

Nico then started delivering vegetable boxes as a new venture.

He said: “I decided to do something different, so while doing that, I decided to throw some doughnuts inside and became a supplier and got back into a restaurant and traded from the estate.

“We are also a bakery so what makes us special, and we do not buy anything from anyone, we make it all here.

“You can get patisserie which we specialise in. I am from Rome and we do things properly when it comes to traditional dishes like carbonara and oxtail.”

The restaurant is known for its pasta dishes and coffee.

England and Manchester City footballer Jack Grealish has paid a visit as part of a photoshoot at the restaurant in the past.

Nico said: “What makes us special is that we make all the things from scratch and the coffee comes from my background in plantation. I have done studies on it and ran classes on it.

“I have got huge expertise on it and even make the bread like you would have in a Michelin restaurant, so we are traditional but up to date.”
