A Prestwich takeaway run by an Oldham man has won a top national award.

Liton Miah is the owner of Tiffin Xpress, which was crowned the Customer's Choice Takeaway of the Year.

The takeaway owner is also the head chef at the business, which is based in Bury New Road, Prestwich.

He has won one award previously, winning the Stockport Curry Competition in 2010 however this award is the first one that Tiffin Xpress has won.

The awards held by the UK Curry Industry were hosted at the Stanley House Hotel in Blackburn on Monday, February 17.

Liton’s friend, Amin Chowdhury was present at the awards ceremony and spoke about the event.

He said: “Liton was over the moon, I was invited to go with him, and he was crying with happiness as he has been working so hard to establish this business.

“He’s thankful to the community of Prestwich who have been supporting his business here for over the last 10 years and he truly believes all the success goes to the loyal customers and community.

“This is why he wants to dedicate the award to the community for their support.

“He works so hard for the business and gives his heart and soul to it.”

The Asian catering industry is worth an estimated £5 billion to the UK economy, but in recent years has witnessed a worrying decline that has been largely attributed to a shortage of skilled workers and lack of investment in training.

The award was launched three years ago to address these concerns and aims to positively promote the industry by highlighting the sector’s success stories and its wider contribution to UK culture.
