A Manchester-based brewery has launched a free school uniform scheme to help Bury families lower the costs this September.
Family business Joseph Holt owns several pubs in the borough, including the Woodthorpe in Prestwich and The Goat’s Gate in Radcliffe, and is stepping in to help parents who may be struggling to afford school kit for their children.
They are also calling on customers to donate unwanted items of school wear in good condition at collection points where donations can be dropped off – the full list of venues can be found on the Joseph Holt website.
Donations will be organised according to size and school and listed on the individual pubs Facebook page.
Borough charities will also be called in to help distribute the items.
Donated items can be any part of the school kit such as shirts, trousers, ties and sportswear, which are in good condition.
Paul Longmire, marketing manager at Joseph Holt said: “With so much need across so many communities, we felt that once again, we must help families struggling in the pocket.
“At the end of the school year, some may find their children have grown out of uniform which is still in very good condition.
“By collecting pieces which are unused or in a very good condition, hopefully we can ensure no child worries about going back to school in the autumn without the right uniform.
“What’s more, recycling uniform will save landfill space and reduces greenhouse gases, so there is an environmental benefit too.”

A survey found a third of parents are still worried about uniform costs, while one in five schools have increased the number of branded items required over the past year.
Parents are having to pay £442 on average to kit a child out for secondary school and £343 for primary school.
Those who would benefit from the free uniform scheme can direct message pubs individual Facebook pages and requests can be put aside for collection.
Any items left over will be donated to the schools directly.
