A hair expert from Bury has had her wealth of experience celebrated after winning multiple awards last month.

Stacey-Ann Foy operates from a home salon in Brandlesholme. After moving to Bury from Jamaica when she was nine years old, she struggled to find anyone nearby who could style her hair.

After eventually finding a suitable salon in Manchester city centre, she started to practice on herself.

Other children at her school began to request that Stacey-Ann do their hair too and she soon found that she “had a knack for it.”

The 44-year-old said: “I used to travel to Manchester but it was a full day out. I never wanted to be a hairdresser, but I saw there was a gap.

“After I had children, I wanted something for myself, so I started night school after the kids went to bed.”

She had initially begun training at Bury College, but they couldn’t offer the right level of support for the types of hair Stacey wanted to specialise in, so they recommended that she moved somewhere more suitable.

Stacey-Ann then gained an NVQ Level 3 at Manchester College.

After working at salons across the city for a few years, Stacey-Ann opened up her own business - Stacey'S StyleS Texture Ltd.

Operating from a converted garage in her Bury home to help accommodate her family life better, she created an inclusive space for people to utilise her expertise, which includes working with Afro-Caribbean, European, curly and textured hair

She added: “At first, I focused on relaxers and extensions, colour and cut for five years before moving into more of the educational side in colleges.

“I closed down my salon when I had progressed to managing a team of 20 people and worked in the sector for a while, but my focus on hair got a bit lost along the way.

“During lockdown, I had some time to reflect and decided to reopen my home salon again in 2022. I called up my previous clients and most of them came straight back!”

The salon underwent an upgrade in February this year.

Stacey-Ann has become a trusted name in the industry, working all over the world and undertaking more training at Wella Academy, Vidal Sassoon, Avlon and Joseph Lanzante.

As one of the few Cado-trained cutters and colourists in the UK, she is an advanced colourist and continues to expand her expertise with international educators such as Cut It Kinky, Desert Curls, Innersense Organic Beauty and Reema Jaber.

Last month, Stacey-Ann was given first place in the Holistic Salon of the Year category (regional) in the UK Hair Awards (UHA) 2025.

She also scooped third place (regional) for Micro Salon of the Year and Colour Technician of the Year.

Alongside these accolades, she was also named in the UK Top 100 Winners for Best Salon Decor 2025 and received Highly Recommended in the Best Home Salon 2025 in the UK category in the Hair And Beauty Awards (HBA).

Stacey had never entered any awards before but thought “it was about time” after almost two decades in the industry.

She added: “I was actually in London this week showcasing and doing demos for how to style textured hair.

“I still go around colleges teaching how certain types of hair can be styled curly too. In the nineties, it was all about poker straight hair but we’re seeing more people embracing natural textures.

“We live in a wonderful, diverse community and everybody needs to be considered. Maybe not every salon, but every other one.

“There is no one else dealing with naturally textured hair and the percentage of people wanted that service here is high.

“I’m here to cater for our diverse town.”
