An American chain coffee shop in Bury town centre has closed two years after it first opened.

Starbucks officially closed its store on The Rock Shopping Centre on Sunday, November 2, after first opening in September 2023, creating 20 jobs at the Goodall Street location.

The move comes after the coffee giant shared plans in September this year to close some UK stores following a review of its global coffee shops.

However, the Bury store was not named at the time.

A sign placed on the door of the empty unit advised customers of alternative Starbucks locations.

The company runs around 520 company-owned stores in the UK, as well as franchise-owned shops.

It is understood that more than 5,600 people work for Starbucks across the UK.

The coffee chain has said that despite the closures, it is still on track to open 80 new Starbucks sites in the UK and is “committed to the country”.

Starbucks will reduce its portfolio of stores in North America by one per cent this year and will cut “around 900” head office jobs there.

Speaking on the Bury store closure, a Starbucks spokesperson said: "We regularly review our portfolio to ensure our stores are relevant for our customers.

"Our store in The Rock Shopping Centre, Bury closed on Sunday, November 2, and we thank our customers for their loyalty over the years and invite them to find their nearest store on the Starbucks Store Locator.”
