A popular Irish bar is saying a final farewell to customers with a three-day celebration.

Macca’s Bar and Grill in the Longfield Centre, Prestwich, will be closing it’s doors following the upcoming demolition of the shopping precinct.

They will be hosting ‘Macca’s Closing Party Weekend’, which started on Friday, January 30, and continues to Sunday, February 1, with the bar inviting people back for one last celebration, including live music and drinks offers for “a proper send‑off”.

They are also asking customers to share their favourite ‘Macca’s moments’ since first opening almost three years ago.

Louise Rose, manager at Macca’s, said: “We pride ourselves on hosting live music every weekend, including some sets in the week.

“Music has run through the core of Macca’s from the very beginning, giving people a chance to perform on open mic nights which then turned into paid gigs.

“We reached out to some of our popular artists to help us go out with a bang as our time in Prestwich is coming to an end."

The bar was named as a tribute to a Prestwich man nicknamed ‘Macca’ who was a close friend of the owners and sadly died before they opened the venue.

Louise added: “We just wanted to put something about how proud we are to have been part of such a fantastic community.

“Macca’s has done what it set out to achieve - to bring people together.

“Friendships, relationships and strong bonds have been created for life, and this was the very ethos of the beautiful guy our bar is named after.”

“While we’re still working on what 'chapter two' may be, we want to get it as busy as we can and go out with a bang.”

The Longfield Centre will be knocked down as part of a £100m project, which will see the area transformed into a new market and food hall, retail space and a new library, with new homes to follow.

New planning papers have revealed that work on-site is due to begin on February 27, which is when the site will be established and hoarding will be placed around the centre.

Official demolition works are then scheduled to begin on March 13 and will last more than three months, before concluding on June 25.
