A Bury estate agent will open its doors from 5am on Saturday to offer Record Store Day queuers respite and has organised a special acoustic concert for those waiting.

This Saturday, April 18, is Record Store Day, and more than 300 independent record shops across the UK and Ireland will participate.

Each year, exclusive records are available at independent retailers across the country, and people queue for hours for a chance to purchase them and secure other deals.

Record Store Day first started in 2007 when a gathering of record shop owners came together in the US to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture of record stores.

The first official event took place on April 19, 2008, and today it is celebrated by thousands of record shops all over the globe in what's become the biggest new music event of the past decade.

Among those participating is Bury's Wax and Beans, located at 16 Market Street.

The independent record and coffee shop is owned by partners Ben Soothill and Louise Jackson.

Last year's Record Store Day saw music lovers of all ages camping outside the store in the hope of getting their hands on exclusive records.

People flocked from as far as Blackpool and Bacup to kip outside the shop last year, and with many expected to do the same this Saturday, a local business has offered its services.

Cardwells, an estate agent with a branch just next door at 14 Market Street, Bury, will be opening its shop from 5am on Saturday, to offer those queuing for Record Store Day a spot of respite.

They are offering eager record collectors use of their facilities, and a break from the weather, should they need it.

The business has also organised a performance from local band The Radio Addicts to keep those in the queue entertained.

Cardwells Managing Director, Andrew Cardwell, said: “We at Cardwells are proud to be part of our wonderful Bury community, and this is just us doing our little bit to help out.

"We are next door to the amazing Wax and Beans and know that record enthusiasts and collectors will arrive to queue up early in the morning, or perhaps even wait through the night.

"So we are opening up our office from 5am so that those who maybe need the loo, or want a little break from the weather, can call into our office.

"We are expecting hundreds, if not thousands, of people to come to Bury to secure the rare and collectable records that are only available at Wax and Beans.

"Record Store Day is a brilliant day for the Bury music community and the town centre every year, and this year promises to be the best yet.

"We have also arranged for an exclusive acoustic performance from brilliant local young band The Radio Addicts to keep everyone entertained in the queue. It promises to be a brilliant day!”

Wax and Beans used social media to thank Cardwells and said: "Our neighbours and great friends strike again with this very kind gesture. Thank you."
