A landmark Bury pub has issued an update on its future after the building was put up for sale with a £500,000 guide price.

The Clarence, on the corner of Silver Street and Bolton Street, is being advertised by agents as a freehold “up‑market contemporary bar and restaurant” in a prominent spot on the town’s main leisure circuit.

In a statement shared on social media on Saturday, April 25, the team described the pub as entering “an exciting new phase” and set out plans for a “phased revival” of the historic venue.

They said their focus to create “a warm, welcoming pub that celebrates Bury’s people, its producers, and its culture” and stressed that every step was designed to bring “more life, more choice, and more energy” to the town centre.

The detailed statement explained that Blueness Services, a Stockport‑based hospitality operator set up last year, has taken on a five‑year lease of the site.

The update said the bar at The Clarence is fully operational with a “growing local team” in place, and that investment is being made in the building, the bar offer and the overall customer experience.

It added that staff are building partnerships with breweries, suppliers and performers and preparing the venue for a “full relaunch” over the coming months.

The team stated that their aim is to restore the pub as “a place the community can be proud of”, describing the project as “a phased revival - thoughtful, steady, and built to last”.

They also outlined a series of commitments to Bury, including creating a friendly, community‑driven pub, showcasing local craft beers, cask ales, fine wines and premium spirits, supporting local live acts and performers and offering “great value through daily drink promotions”.

The post went on to stress that, while the building is on the market, the operator will continue to trade under the lease, which it said would provide “stability moving forward” as work continues to revive the pub.

The statement added: “The Clarence is more than a pub. It’s a meeting place, a stage for local talent, a home for great drinks, and a space for celebrations.

“We’re proud to be bringing it back - and even prouder to do it with the support of the Bury community.”
