Prestwich Carnival will take place this weekend and some roads will be closed in the area to allow the parade to go ahead.

The carnival will run on Saturday, June 13 and Sunday, June 14, with the parade taking place on Sunday between 12pm and 2pm.

It takes place annually and offers free family activities, live music, food stalls and a parade.

Community groups and other locals take part in the parade, along with impressive floats and vintage vehicles.

Road closures will be in place between 10am and 2pm for the parade, and Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has advised those attending to consider using Metrolink, with Prestwich tram stop just a 10-minute walk away.

The parade will leave from Rectory Lane, heading towards Heywood Road, then onto Heys Road, Fairfax Road and Bury New Road, passing through the village to St Mary’s Park.

To allow the parade to take place, the following road closures will be in place:

  • Rectory Lane will be closed between Clarks Hill and St Mary’s Road from 10am to 2pm
  • Bury New Road will be closed between Tesco Prestwich and Scholes Lane from 12pm to 2pm

TfGM has advised that traffic will need to use alternative routes and this means there could be congestion on roads near the parade route.

Bus diversions will also be in place on Sunday and it might be quicker to walk or cycle if you live locally.

The following services will be on diversion throughout the day: 66, 94, 95, 97, 98, X41 and X43.

Nearby park and ride services are also available along the Bury line at Whitefield and Radcliffe.

Here motorists can park their car for free and then use the Metrolink to complete their journey.
