A psychic medium is coming to Ramsbottom, connecting people with loved ones in a night of love, light, and laughter this December.
Tony McMahon said he learnt of his psychic abilities when he was just five years old.
Starting out by performing readings on people, the Wirral native has spent the past 35 years honing his skills and has performed shows and psychic evenings for over a decade.
Now, he is bringing his unique abilities to Bury, in what promises to be an entertaining and spiritual evening at Ramsbottom Civic Hall.
"I love what I do," said Tony.
"It helps people to know that whatever you believe, that your loved ones are still with you and always around you.
"I know stuff about things that have happened from the spirits that have passed, that you just wouldn’t know."
Tony explained that, before a show, he makes a point of not researching the location ahead of time or trying to find out more about people he does readings for.
He said: "It’s quite an unusual thing to do, I guess.
"You can’t just do it, basically, it takes a lot of time to develop over the years.
"I developed in my 20s, really, to be a medium.
"I worked with a medium myself and developed that link to the spirit world."
While not everyone who attends a show is guaranteed a reading, Tony says that people take comfort in being reconnected with loved ones that have passed away.
He said: "It’s the memories really, a lot of memories come up.
"You can’t promise a reading for every single person.
"I link with the spirit world, and their loved ones come through and I talk to them.
"But it’s generally about spirits that have passed; to know they’re with them.
"Sometimes, I’ll say something really specific to someone that’s happened that day.
"Something so simple, like they might have moved a photo of their mum or something like that, or they’ve broken something.
"They’re with them [the spirits] and it makes them feel comforted.
"Some people get freaked by it, but not many people do."
"It’s about love, peace and life," Tony added.
"That’s what I’m all about, bringing the world together.
"There’s more than just this on the Earth, this isn’t it.
"This is a tiny part of it and there’s a lot more than that."
Tony admitted that his psychic abilities were sometimes met with scepticism, but it was often those people who were most shocked by what they saw at the events.
He said: "You don’t have to be spiritual; you don’t have to be a believer to come along.
"I go to people sometimes who are sceptical about it all, you do get a lot of that.
"I always explain that’s absolutely fine, but nine times out of ten, when I talk to those people, it seems to be that I’m even more spot on with them.
"And then they’re like ‘how do you know that?’ and I say it’s because I’m talking to their loved ones."
Sometimes, however, Tony says the spirits he communicates with can bring back negative memories, adding to the challenge of the evening, but he always tries to handle those situations with care.
He said: "A lot of spirits, when they come through, they want to hang all their dirty washing out because they’ve passed on.
"I see stuff that’s happened that might not be a positive thing, and I word it in a certain way to be mindful of that, because I don’t want to upset anyone.
"It’s tricky sometimes, it’s a responsibility to handle people’s state of mind.
"I don’t say to someone ‘oh, something bad is going to happen’, it’s all positive stuff.
"I want people to go home feeling really good, whether they’ve had a reading or not.
"It’s always really positive with me.
"The main thing is helping people feel better.
"It’s all about wellbeing, and I follow a code of ethics as well."
Doors open at 7pm on 5 December, with tickets starting from £15.
