A woman has been arrested in Bury after a knife was found during a police stop, with officers also recovering drugs and £10,000 cash at a nearby property.

Greater Manchester Police said officers stopped a 'suspicious vehicle' on Hall Street at around 10.20pm yesterday (June 10) and discovered a knife inside the car.

A 26-year-old woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and she remains in custody for further questioning.

Following the arrest, officers attended a nearby address and recovered a significant amount of drugs suspected to be MDMA and cannabis resin, as well as approximately £10,000 in cash.

Mobile phones were also seized and will be forensically examined as part of the investigation.

Superintendent Phil Spurgeon from GMP’s Bury district said: "This is yet another example of positive, proactive action taken by our officers.

"If you are out there, intent on committing a criminal offence – whether that is dealing drugs, carrying a weapon or breaking into houses or cars – we are out and about 24 hours a day and you will be caught."

Greater Manchester Police has more than 1,600 response officers working across different boroughs, regularly acting as the first on the scene to assess risks, begin investigations, and provide reassurance to the public.
