Brave walkers will once again dodge attacks from the undead as they traipse across Holcombe Moor for a good cause.

Not-for-profit outdoor events charity The Sunnywood Project has been running ‘zombie hikes’ for the past six years and has recently announced the event will return in October.

It is one of the project’s most popular events and involves a four-mile trek over Holcombe Moor while participants are chased by ‘zombies’.

Each participant is given three lives, represented in previous years by glow sticks, and the aim is to keep as many as possible throughout the evening.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 24, and under-18s will need an adult with them.

Tickets are priced at £25, with the money going to The Sunnywood Project’s youth programme.

Marc Young, director, said: "There’s an element of fun or fear.

"When people finish, they feel great because they have been out in the great outdoors.

"All proceeds go towards our youth service."

The Sunnywood Project works with young people and the community to provide outdoor experiences and enrich lives through exploring nature.

Feedback from previous events has been positive, and in the past, Bury Times reporters have headed out on the trek.

They have given it a glowing review, describing it as “brilliant” and “fantastic”.

One reporter even said: “I'm surprised we didn't get a noise complaint because I was screaming the whole way – I've never run as fast in my life!”

If a zombie walk is not your thing, the project runs regular events including hiking expeditions, a ‘colour dash’ with up to 500 people in Burrs Country Park, and a silent disco walk.

The project also offers all levels of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and has a youth group called Kindling Kids.
