Bury drinkers are raising a glass to the most affordable pint in the UK, after the town was named the cheapest place for a beer during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to a new Beer Index compiled by Fast Loan UK, the average pint in the Greater Manchester town costs just £2.75.
This puts Bury at the top of the national rankings for affordable beer.
Joe Brunt from Fast Loan UK said: "What our study really highlights is that the great British pint is still very much alive and affordable; you just need to know where to look.
"The price of a pint can vary dramatically depending on where you are in the country, and that variation threw up some genuinely surprising results.
"Some of the cheapest places to drink also happen to have fantastic, well-reviewed local pubs, which tells you that low prices don't mean a compromise on quality or atmosphere.
"Whether you're a local heading to your regular or a tourist exploring somewhere new, there are still incredible bargains to be found across England, Scotland and Wales."
The findings come as welcome news during the World Cup, a time when pub-goers across the UK have been flocking to support their teams.
Fans in Bury paid less than the national average for a pint, which now sits at £4.83.
For England and Scotland supporters, the average price has climbed by £1.50, or 36 per cent, since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
That increase is more than double the rate of inflation over the same period.
The north of England dominated the Beer Index, with other locations with very affordable pints, including Hull at £3.47 and Blackpool at £3.50.
Scotland also featured prominently, with Kilmarnock offering the country’s cheapest pint at £3.25.
Wrexham, home to the UK’s oldest lager brewery, topped the charts in Wales with a pint averaging £4.
The north-south divide was clear in the English rankings.
Bury led the way, followed by Hull and Blackpool, with southern entries like Gloucester and Luton still making the top 10.
Pub-goers in Preston, Northampton, Stoke-on-Trent, and Peterborough can also find a pint for £4.52 or less.
Kilmarnock, Dundee, Ayr, Falkirk, and Greenock made up Scotland’s five most affordable drinking destinations.
In Wales, Wrexham and Newport were tied at £4, followed by Swansea (£4.26), Rhyl (£4.50), and Merthyr Tydfil (£4.75).
As the results of the study show, price isn’t everything.
So, whether you’re cheering on the football or just catching up with friends, there’s perhaps no better place to enjoy a bargain pint than right here in Bury.
