The countdown is on for the arrival of one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

In exactly one year, Lancashire will take centre stage as the Tour de France, with stage two of the men’s race set to cover around 80 miles of the county.

The 2027 event will mark the first time both the men’s and women’s Grands Départs are held in the UK.

Stage two of the men’s race will take place on July 3, 2027, passing through Morecambe, Lancaster, the Forest of Bowland, Clitheroe, Blackburn, Chorley, and West Lancashire.

The route will feature demanding climbs in the Trough of Bowland and over Rivington.

Councillor Stephen Atkinson, leader of Lancashire County Council, said: "With just one year to go, we are incredibly excited to start the countdown to the world's greatest cycling race.

"The Tour de France is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to showcase our beautiful county to a global audience and celebrate the communities that make Lancashire such a special place."

The event is expected to inject more than £15 million into Lancashire’s economy, benefiting hotels, restaurants, pubs, and other businesses.
