A Bury church with roots stretching back nearly two centuries is preparing to celebrate a pair of important milestones as two of its much-loved community groups turn 40.

Radcliffe Road Baptist Church, based next to The Derby High School, is inviting former and current members, families, and local residents to join its anniversary celebrations at a special open day on Saturday, September 12.

The event will mark the 40th birthdays of Ladybird Toddlers and Friday Club, two groups that have supported generations of local children and families since the church was re-established on its current site in 1986.

Church member Cathy said the occasion will be a chance to look back on four decades of community involvement and reconnect with the many people who have been part of the groups over the years.

Radcliffe Road Baptist Church itself has a long history in the town, having served the Bury community since 1835.

The church was replanted at its current location in 1986, and its modern building was officially opened in 2004.

Over the past 40 years, Ladybird Toddlers has welcomed countless parents, carers, and young children through its doors, while Friday Club has become a familiar part of life for many local primary school-aged youngsters.

Organisers are hoping that former members, volunteers, leaders, and families who attended either group over the years will join the celebrations and share their memories.

The open day will feature opportunities to meet old friends, look back at the groups’ history, and celebrate the role they have played in the lives of local families.

A spokesperson for the church said: “So many Bury mums, dads, and children have passed through our doors over the last 40 years.

"We would love to see as many people as possible come along and celebrate with us.”

The anniversary open day takes place at Radcliffe Road Baptist Church on Saturday, September 12, and everyone in the community is welcome to attend.

Anyone who has connections with Ladybird Toddlers or Friday Club, whether recent or dating back decades, is encouraged to come along and help celebrate this special landmark in the church’s history.
