A historic Lancashire hall has reopen after major renovation work.

Astley Hall reopened its doors earlier this month, offering visitors a fresh look inside one of Chorley’s most treasured heritage sites.

The Grade I-listed landmark fully reopened on Saturday, October 24, following extensive refurbishment of its West Wing.

Councillor Peter Wilson, deputy leader of Chorley Council, said: "Astley Hall is one of Chorley's most important heritage attractions and although the recent renovation works and partial closure were essential, and a significant milestone in preserving the hall for future generations, we're really looking forward to reopening the West Wing again so visitors can get the full Astley Hall experience.

"October half term provides the perfect opportunity for families to rediscover the hall while enjoying a fantastic programme of seasonal activities."

The restoration project focused on preserving the historic fabric of the building while enhancing its appeal for visitors.

Funding for the £400,000 project came from The Wolfson Foundation (£100,000), the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (£34,000), The Friends of Astley Hall (£5,000), and Chorley Council.

Refreshed and redressed rooms will now be open to the public, alongside the return of artwork and collection items that were temporarily removed during the works.

Inside, the Stucco and Cromwell bedrooms have been refurbished to reflect life at the hall in 1852, during the time of Lady Susannah Hoghton.

Visitors will be able to explore the hall’s history through her perspective, as well as those of household servants recorded in the census from that year.

The Room of Reflection now features new Second World War-era artworks and collection items, complementing the upcoming exhibition The Longest Yarn.

A programme of events was been planned to mark the reopening, including a Curious Creatures trail and free craft workshops during half term.

The week will conclude with the sold-out Astley After Dark event on Halloween.

Following half term, the hall will host the nationally touring exhibition The Longest Yarn from November 14 to December 2.

Christmas at Astley will follow, with the hall transformed by the Friends of Astley Hall, and children invited to meet Father Christmas in the historic setting.

A spokesperson for Astley Hall said: "Astley Hall is set to begin an exciting new chapter this October half term, fully reopening to visitors following the completion of renovation works.

"Coinciding with a programme of seasonal events and activities, the reopening of the West Wing will offer visitors an even more welcoming and enhanced experience."
