A Whitefield couple have well and truly caught the wedding bug thanks to some nifty detective work that bagged them £5,000.

Sarah Priestner, aged 19, of Astley Mews, Whitefield, and fiance Jamie Eden, aged 20, of Walkden, won the star cash prize after beating thousands of other competitors to the mystery location of an electronic bug hidden in Bury Market.

The loving duo now plan to use the money for their dream wedding, which was originally planned to take place after 2010 “We just can’t believe it. We haven’t been able to start planning our wedding yet as we need to save up so much, so winning £5,000 is such a boost. We can get married much sooner now,” said Sarah.

Sarah met Jamie two years ago and earlier this year, began keeping a closer ear to the radio when the station launched a competition urging listeners to find the device hidden somewhere in Greater Manchester.

For weeks, it had gone undiscovered until super sleuths Sarah and Jamie got in on the act.

Sarah, who went to Parrenthorn High School and now works for currency conversion firm Travelex, said: “It’s quite funny really. Whenever both of us got a day off we would say ‘let’s go and hunt for the bug.’ “It hadn’t been in North Manchester before, so when a clue said it would be coming here, we knew it had to be Bury and when they said it was next to three cafes and birds singing, I knew it was Bury Market.”

Comically, the couple went to the square at the end of Princess Parade and sat on a bench next to the bug, but had to shout out “I love Key 103” to win the £5,000 prize.

Sarah added: “When I finally plucked up the courage to shout it, the guy sat next to us turned out to be from the radio station and he said ‘I’ve been listening to you argue over who is going to say it. Thank God you have at last.’”

Jamie proposed on Valentine’s Day, but the couple were waiting until he graduated from his computing course at Salford University before they married.

Sarah said: “At first, our parents would not believe we had won the money, but now everyone is happy for us.”
