ON Wednesday, November 19 Radcliffe Probus Club, wives and friends held their Christmas lunch at Stand Golf Club.
Joe Sowden, the club secretary, introduced club president Roger Heywood, who then introduced our guest of honour, the president of Radcliffe Rotary Club Ron Mollard, and his wife, and welcomed all our guests.
The Rotary president thanked our club for his invitation, stating that over 30 years ago it was Radcliffe Rotary Club which presented the chain of office that our president was wearing, the Radcliffe Probus Club. He hoped the friendship of the two clubs would carry on for many years to come. Our secretary then introduced our guest speaker Ernest Statham, who has for many years attended our functions. Once again he read a number of his own Lancashire dialect poems. Our secretary thanked Ernest for his readings and called upon the press officer to present bouquets to the President’s Ladies. Our president thanked all members and friends attending the lunch and wished them all a safe journey home and a very happy Christmas. An excellent meal was enjoyed by all members and our thanks are extended to the caterers of Stand Golf Club. TN
