IT was ‘back to school’ for Greenmount Evening WI at our November meeting when we enjoyed a talk by Mr David Cook entitled Humour in Education.
He regaled us with tales of his own schooldays and also his experiences as a schoolteacher in Stretford.
During the past month some of our members enjoyed a guided tour around the Midland Hotel in Manchester followed by afternoon tea there.
We learned about the history of the hotel and saw some of the rooms (including the suite where Pavarotti stayed on his visits to Manchester).
According to letters unearthed during recent alterations some of the guests had rather eccentric requests.
Next on our agenda is a band concert given by Tottington public band on Sunday, December 7 at Tottington High School, starting at 7.30pm.
Tickets are £5 and everyone is welcome. Sherry and mince pies will be served in the interval.
Following our Christmas party at Greenmount Golf Club it will be back to business in January.
