A mischievous puppy had to be rescued by firefighters after getting a toy stuck round his neck.

Patterdale terrier Eli, who is just eight weeks old, was playing with the chew toy on Friday afternoon with his owner, four-year-old Amelia Ryder. But the toy became stuck round Eli’s neck and could not be removed.

Amelia’s mum, Catherine, and her boyfriend, Lee Rodgers, tried to remove the toy and even used a small saw.

After two hours without any luck, they took Eli to Bury fire station where three firefighters were needed to keep Eli still and operate bolt cutters to remove the toy. Catherine, of Bank Street, Walshaw, said: “We were all laughing and saying how cute he looked with the toy round his neck, but then we realised it was stuck. We tried everything we could to get it off, but nothing would work. Eli wasn’t hurt at all, but we were really worried about him. The lads at the fire station seemed happy to help.”
