A SCHEME to cut dangerous traffic speeds and improve disabled access has been given the green light in Holcombe village.
Members of the Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor Local Area Partnership agreed the proposals at a public meeting last Thursday.
The traffic calming scheme was devised after BADDAC (Bury & District Disabled Advisory Council) identified a problem for disabled access as narrow footways meant wheelchair users were often forced into the road to travel through the village.
A 1.5 metre footway will be installed in Helmshore Road at the ‘pinch point’ adjacent to the Shoulder of Mutton Pub.
The carriageway width will be reduced to a single traffic lane, which will allow better disabled access and cut the traffic speed limit.
It is not certain when work will begin but it is due to be completed by the end of March next year.
