The pensioner writing about the availability of Christmas stamps is quite right.

Royal Mail has received the Church of England’s stamp of approval warmly welcoming the decision to again issue Christmas stamps with a Christian theme in parallel this year to their ‘Pantomime’ series.

The Royal Mail has printed tens of millions of both sets of stamps. It has sometimes been said that the traditional stamps with a religious theme are kept under the counter.

That’s not the case. Since November 4, customers have been able to buy stamps depicting two classic paintings — the Madonna of Humility by Lippo di Dalmasio, and Madonna and Child by William Dyce.

I am delighted that the Royal Mail is producing Christmas stamps which recognise that people celebrate Christmas as the birth of Jesus and hope that the Post Office will continue to produce Christian stamps each Christmas as they have brightened up the Christmas season for the past 40 years in the Advent season which starts on November 30.

May all the readers know the gift of God’s hope this Christmas and through the New Year.
