BURY MP David Chaytor has demanded a halt to the “damaging and unpopular” closure of post offices.
The Labour backbencher also urges the Government to create a ‘people’s bank’ based on the trusted PO network.
Mr Chaytor is backing a Parliamentary motion which supports the “unique and valued national institution” of the Royal Mail at this time of financial crisis.
The group of 51 MPs wants ministers to make the post office card account a key part of a new nationally owned bank, and take the “necessary and popular steps to stop any further cutting back on Royal Mail capacity”.
