Passing through Tottington on November 11, I paused by the war memorial and was shocked and saddened to see that Bury Council had not seen fit to take down their Green Parks flag and raise the Union Jack.

This seems to actively demonstrate the lack of respect to veterans, young and old, of the last 100 years and the current indifference towards serving military personnel.

How can we hope to foster this respect in the young of our community when the powers that be show such little thought? The Union flag should be raised in tribute to these brave men and women, who I am quite sure did not lay down their lives in order for us to have the prettiest leisure areas.
