An Englishman’s home was once his castle and perceived problems were met with offers of help. Why then do your correspondents (‘Hall in a sorry state’, Letters, November 13) think that it is acceptable to peer through the windows of my home and pass judgement on our possessions?
Whilst we are not wealthy, it is both hurtful and demeaning to have our family things described as ‘trash’. It is sad that they prefer to waste council time and newspaper inches rather than simply calling at my door for a chat and cup of tea.
My guess is that they would probably be happy if I slapped a coat of paint on to ‘keep up appearances’.
This kind of approach in the past is the cause of many of the problems today. Remedial work will continue appropriately.
