A TEAM of kind-hearted accountants left their desks to become champions of the community!

Fifty staff from the Leeds and Manchester offices of KPMG teamed up with Bury Council to help decorate a community centre and to do chores outside.

The employees decided to lend a helping hand as part of the accountancy firm’s annual corporate social responsibility day.

They worked in local communities across Whitefield and Bury East to support projects identified by the Local Area Partnership (LAP) managers.

In Whitefield, the Elms Community Centre was redecorated to give it a fresh start to the New Year. The firm provided the man and woman power, while the LAP funded the £800 cost of the materials.

In Bury East, there were litter-picking sessions in Pimhole and Mosses as well as a team redecorating the Asian Women’s Centre. Other tasks included tidying up gardens and improving garages around Shaw Street and fence repairs in Willow Street.

KPMG project co-ordinator Jessica Stace said: “The responsibility day gives our company and employees the opportunity to provide practical help to community groups and make a tangible difference.”

Margaret Fletcher, from the Elms centre, said: “We were delighted with the offer from KPMG. The centre had not been painted since we opened in 2002.”
