A CARE home that provides support for people with brain injuries has opened in Tottington.

The first resident moved into Agricola House on Monday, January, 19, and seven more are due to join following a successful open day.

The eight-bed home in Kirklees Street aims to support individuals with head or brain injuries, helping them regain confidence and independence.

It is part of the Voyage group, which owns around 400 homes across the country offering a range of care solutions for people with a variety of specialist needs.

Programmes are tailored to an individual’s routine and use speech and language therapy, neuro-physiotherapy and neuro-psychology to increase independence and comfortably integrate patients back into the community.

Keith Moran, Agricola manager, said: “It was a great open day and we are nearly full now as a result of the success.”

A Voyage spokesman said: “When someone suffers a severe brain injury it may lead to some physical disability, but often the greatest challenges are to regain former skills and find ways to compensate for those that have been lost.

“Bury is easily accessible and has a wide range of community resources, from leisure and recreational activities to educational facilities.

“We encourage service users to take an active and involved role in the household and the community.”
