ETTIE Harlick was surrounded by five generations of her family as she celebrated her 100th birthday.

For her nieces and their families visited Mrs Harlick at Cameron House care home, in Bury, where she has lived since April.

They watched Mrs Harlick as she opened cards and gifts and then tucked into birthday cake at the celebration last Thursday.

She was presented with a bouquet of flowers by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bury, Councillor Peter Ashworth and Angela Lawrence.

She also received cards from the Queen and the Department of Work and Pensions.

Mrs Harlick was born in Blackpool and had a twin sister, Bertha, as well as an older sister and two brothers.

She lived in London for many years with her husband, John, who worked in the Navy, and she did office work until she was in her late 70s.

Mrs Harlick enjoyed going to the theatre with Bertha and driving.

The couple moved to Rawtenstall in 1989, where Mrs Harlick remained until moving to Cameron House last year. Mr Harlick died in 2003.

Helen Dean, personal activities leader at the home, said: “Ettie really enjoyed her birthday. She took everything in her stride and had a lovely day.”
