FOR years, the Liberal Democrat councillors have shown little real interest in any part of the borough apart from Prestwich If we are to judge them by Cllr Richard Baum’s latest letter, this lack of concern has led to a shameful lack of knowledge.

He hasn’t noticed the massive investment in health services at Fairfield General Hospital.

It is also probable that he hasn’t seen the new primary care centre on The Rock or the replacement for Ribblesdale and Peel health centres being built opposite the town hall.

But, then, they are not in Prestwich!

I must also ask how he can so disgracefully allege that “Bury Labour voted against a new school for Radcliffe”.

Let me make it quite clear, Labour councillors have led the campaign for a new high school for Radcliffe. And we did so at the last council meeting. Indeed, we would have won the vote if the Liberal Democrats had supported us.

We demanded, also, that the Derby School be rebuilt on its current site. Again, the Liberal Democrats refused to support us.

Cllr Baum is asking the people of Bury North to believe he has their interests at heart. So could he explain to the parents of children from Walmersley, Fishpool, Mosses or Pimhole how it is better for them to have to travel to Radcliffe rather than stay in Bury?

Furthermore, I am sure the people of Bury North would like him to explain how, after having done the dirty on Radcliffe and the Derby School, he can support a new, enlarged school in Prestwich to cater largely for pupils from Manchester?
