FUNDING has been secured for the proposed children’s centre at the site of the former Ramsbottom Heritage Museum.

Bury Council has announced that £330,000 has been allocated for the project from the Government’s Sure Start scheme.

The Sure Start Early Years Childcare Capital Grant, 2008 to 2011, has a specific allocation for children’s centres of £1,130,386.

There are currently three phase one centres and eight phase two centres being developed in Bury.

If plans are approved, Ramsbottom could have a dedicated children’s centre, including a base for the town’s youth services, by this time next year.

The single-storey building would be developed in Carr Street at the former home of the Ramsbottom Historical Society.

A decision by planners is due to be made early next year.
