THE Tory Town Hall continues to fail to provide value for money for its council tax-payers by abolishing the free collection of bulky waste.

This policy is having a detrimental impact on the residents of Redvales. In particular as it fails to take into account residents with a disability, those that are permanently incapacitated by ill health, unemployed or on a low income.

Charging for the removal of bulky waste since its introduction a few years ago has not improved recycling, though that is what the Tory administration would have us believe.

In fact, the waste now collected has almost halved, now falling even more.

The real cost of this policy, has led to an increase in fly-tipping, consequently damaging the environment, which has led to mounds of rubbish deposited on our streets.

I am not convinced that the Tory Council’s increased revenues from bulky waste collections make up for some of our neighbourhoods being used as regular dumping grounds. Extra waste of council taxpayers’ money is being used to clean up the mess. It is clear this stealth tax needs to go.

The Conservatives claim to be the party of the environment, with their new tree image, and campaign slogan, Vote Blue, Go Green, something they have failed to live up to. It's clear they like to act Green, but in reality they are anything but.
