Environmentalists may have helped create a new world record for the number of trees planted in one hour.

Volunteers descended on Close Park in Radcliffe and Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom and planted 106 trees at each venue between 11am and noon last Saturday.

All over the country, thousands of people were undertaking the same task to try to plant one million trees. Currently, the world record is more than 653,000. Carragh Teague, senior ranger at Bury Council, said: β€œIt may be some time yet we know if the record attempt was successful.”
