AN off-licence has closed its doors after being ordered by the police to stop selling alcohol.
Radcliffe area tasking team received several complaints from residents about anti-social behaviour in the Water Lane area.
Among them were some concerns that Kay’s Food and Wine, in Water Street, was allegedly selling alcohol to under-age drinkers.
The police launched an investigation and two officers saw a 15-year-old youth enter the shop and buy alcohol.
They then looked into the shop’s licence and found discrepancies, so the police told the owner to stop selling alcohol.
The shop owner did not appeal against the ruling and decided to shut down the shop.
Inspector Bryn Williams, head of policing in Radcliffe, said: “We continue to take action against the owners of off-licences that sell to those who are under-age.
“In this instance, it is a warning that we will resort to enforcement action where possible.
“I am pleased to receive feedback from the local residents that anti-social behaviour has reduced since the closure of the premises.”
The shopowner could not be contacted for a comment.
Stand Lane Mini Mart has submitted an application for a licence to sell alcohol.
