YOUNGSTERS are getting an “outstanding” start to their education.

Mosses Pre-School in Cecil Street, Bury, has received the highest mark possible from Ofsted, the Government’s education watchdog.

Every area of the school, from how much children achieve and enjoy learning, to the effectiveness of leadership and management was given a grade one, meaning it was outstanding in every aspect.

Inspectors said: “Children thrive in the visually stimulating environment in which their individual needs are exceptionally well understood. They are wonderfully safe and secure and staff interactions are exemplary.

“Partnerships with parents and other settings and agencies are highly effective in successfully promoting children’s welfare and learning.”

They added: “This means children’s progress in all areas of the Early Years Foundation is excellent according to their age ability and starting points.”

Staff were found to have a good understanding of children’s needs and their wide-ranging cultural differences and the environment children learned in was described as “inspiring, attractive and motivating”.

Inspectors said: “Parents comment on the fantastic, warm and welcoming atmosphere — and say they would not send their children anywhere else.”

Manager Katrina Mitchell said: “We are over the moon with the report, to achieve outstanding in all 14 areas is almost unknown. This is not a purpose built setting, we are charity and every day we have to get it out and everyday we put back but our standard are on par with purpose built facilities. The children are getting a fantastic start to their education.”
