I READ in last week's Bury Times that local Labour MP Ivan Lewis is hoping to become the next major of Greater Manchester.
It seems a very demanding job to take on. Some of the challenges mentioned are economic growth, social justice, open democracy, inequality, education, health, public transport, housing, devolution and to fight for more resources and power.
Phew! What a list and the phrase, jack of all trades and master of none comes to mind.
He has apparently said he could also carry on as the MP for Bury South. I would have thought that after being involved in national matters at Westminster and a myriad of local issues he has time for the above.
I wonder how many people in jobs that pay equivalent to an MP's salary have the time and energy to also do another demanding job.
