MY family and my-self have lived in the Pimhole area of Bury for more than 30 years.

When we moved in, it felt like a community where everyone looked out for each other and would help if and when required.

The area was kept clear and even gardens were well tended.

For the past few years, the area has become a dumping ground. In this period we have had the following dumped at the back of our property:

A burnt-out car

16 car tyres (all at once)

Carpets

Three builders’ sacks full of used bricks. It got even worse when people started to look through the sacks and just left bricks scattered around the alley.

Furniture of all descriptions

Assorted bin bags. If all collected together, they would need their own landfill site to accommodate it all.

Some people do use the bins but, on occasions, they use other people’s, just after they have been emptied by the refuse collectors.

When it has become really bad, we have contacted the council.

Once the rubbish has been cleared, within the next week or so, the rubbish is replaced with even more rubbish.

In one of the complaints to the council, I asked what was the policy regarding fly-tipping. I am still awaiting an answer.

My wife asked one of the men who collected the rubbish as to what action is taken against the people who dump the trash and they said: "A small fine".

I know I am not the only one who feels this way and someone needs to look into this matter.

Maybe a designated team to patrol the streets — these are used in other towns such as Burnley.

I know the problem is down to the costs but, surely the council still has to clear up the mess, at some period, and this still takes money.
