BURY turned in their best performance of the season to show encouraging signs they could yet escape relegation from North Lancs League One.
They started the game brightly, but were exposed in the seventh minute from a lineout when a Burnley catch and drive resulted in the opening try for the visitors.
Ten minutes later, Bury losT the ball in the scrum against the head and Burnley drove over for a converted try. The Radcliffe Road hosts were hit by an injury to centre Mark Campbell who was replaced by Neil Ogden on 28 minutes before Bury narrowed the gap with a Matt Hindley penalty from 30 metres.
But their injury jinx struck yet again when Gary Chester was forced off. The home side finally broke the Burnley defence and, from a tap penalty 10 metres out, moved the ball wide to the right to score in the corner. There was conjecture over who scored the try with the hands of three front-row men apparently on the ball, but it was converted by Hindley.
Bury welcome Trafford MV to Radcliffe on Saturday (kick off 2.15pm) as they search for their first league win.
