FORGOTTEN man Shane Byrne has vowed to be back to full fitness in time for the new season after playing just three times for Bury during their League One relegation campaign.
The 20-year-old centre midfielder joined from Leicester last August for a second spell at Gigg Lane following a successful loan, but has not featured since October after being struck down by glandular fever.
“I’ve been off just shattered for the past six months, but I’ve been slowly building it up and building it up and now I’m back in training every day,” he said.
“I’m in over the summer working hard and getting ready for next season.”
The Irish-born midfielder, who is one of only nine contracted players remaining at Bury, admits he cannot wait to get back playing football again.
“I’m looking forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt and then kicking on from there,” he said.
“As long as I’m playing that’s all that matters. The fans are great, the lads are great. I’m so happy to be here and just want to help get the club back up where they belong in League One.”
