BURY’S new board of directors have said they slashed season ticket prices for the forthcoming campaign because they believe watching football has become too expensive.

The new Gigg Lane regime has abolished the differential between the main and family stands and dropped the price of season tickets, bought before Friday, June 28, from £260 to £200 (from £320 down to £260 for tickets bought after that date).

A new tariff for under-23-year-old students – subject to the production of a valid NUS card – has been introduced at £100, while it remains £100 for u16s, £25 for u11s and free for u5s.

Matchday admissions are down from £21 to £15 with pensioners, unemployed people, disabled and under-23 students admitted for £10.

CEO Glenn Thomas said chairman Stewart Day had travelled watching football extensively and his biggest gripe was ticket pricing.

“He wants people, rather than sitting in front of the TV watching matches because they can’t afford to come here,” said Thomas.

“Our aim is to work with the fans and listen to them – as well as local businesses.”
