SECOND-placed Bury kept up the pressure on leaders Atherton with another impressive win – this time at Little Hulton – in the Bolton Association.

The home side were all out for 180 of which 66 were scored by Azam Shah.

South African Kobus Scholtz starred in the reply, hitting an unbeaten 90, backed up by captain Simon Belston’s 33 as the Radcliffe Road men notched 181-5.

Neighbours Walshaw also tasted victory at Sycamore Road after bowling out Blackrod for 90. Danny Hornby took 5-20 and South African Brandan Williams 4-21 with only Matthew Steers (27) able to provide any resistance for the visitors.

Hornby then had a hand in the run-chase, hitting 34, and Ashley Stephenson scored 29, as Walshaw got 93-2.Meanwhile, lowly Elton also got in on the winning act, by beating Standish at Leigh Lane.

Steve Ward hit an unbeaten 77 and Phil Donnelly was also not out, on 33, while Gaz Nicholson hit 23 in Elton’s total of 199-8, in spite of Sam Heeley’s 5-39.

Usman Khushnood top scored for Standish on 46, but the visitors’ reply fell 53 runs short as Chris Read took 7-59 and returning former Elton coach Mark Goddard took 2-16.Greenmount’s revival in the Bolton League came to an abrupt end on Saturday when they were beaten by current champions Farnworth at Bridgeman Park.

The two clubs, who have dominated the league in recent years, have not had things their own way in the opening weeks of the season.

But Farnworth looked impressive on their way to a 79-run win and a bonus point.

Chris Baxendale’s 77, and 51 from Simon Booth – including six sixes – put down a marker of 234-6, a total that proved out of Greenmount’s reach.

Asif Zakir, who had returned the best of the Bury side’s bowling figures of 4-56, top scored with 50.

But with Anwar Ul-Haq (4-42) leading the attack, the treble winners of two years ago were bowled out for 155.

Greenmount are in Lancashire Knockout action on Sunday at Liverpool Competition side Leigh, as they bid to repeat their success of 2011 in the competition.
