RADCLIFFE responded to their departing captain Mark Robinson’s call for batting consistency with a thumping 100-run win against Central Lancashire League Championship rivals Oldham at the Racecourse Ground on Saturday.

With Robinson leaving as work commitments take him to Australia, batsman Sean Gibson has taken over at the helm.

His men scored an excellent 242-8 with Hafeez Afridi top scoring with 96, before taking a stunning 6-16 with his right-arm medium pace bowling to help dismiss Oldham for 142.

“His was an amazing performance,” said Gibson. “He doesn’t always bowl, but we may be asking him to turn his arm over a bit more.

“He just put the ball in the right place and let the pitch do the rest.”

Gibson, who was second top scorer with 63, repeated Robinson’s belief that the club can gain promotion to the Premier Division.

“I think we’re up to third or fourth now, and if we can keep that consistency going, we’ll be very happy.”

Radcliffe travel to Crompton on Saturday aiming to avenge defeat to the Oldham side earlier in the season.
