TEENAGER Harry Eccles has started to take the Wirral Off-Road Enduro Championship by storm after winning two of his first four races.

The 18-year-old former Woodhey High School, Holcombe Brook pupil won the first event of the season at Baden Hall in Shropshire and followed that up with runner-up slots at the following two events before returning to Baden for his second win.

According to his father Andy, who runs the Dungeon Inn pub in Tottington, Eccles is aiming to step up to the British Championships in which he will have the opportunity to grab the limelight by competing at under-23 level.

But first the maintenance manager at Cheetham Hill Construction is intent on conquering the Wirral event, based predominently in the North West, on his Spanish- made Gas Gas 250cc motorcycle.

“The sport is growing in popularity with more and more people interested in riding bikes off road,” said Andy.

“In Harry’s class there are up to 50 competitors, so it is no mean feat to win these events.”
