WALMER men’s A team had a tough trip to BSF Tennis League rivals Lostock A and they were always up against it.

Jay Hardy and Adam Gooddy won one set in their 6-1, 1-6, 3-6 result, but the pairings of Rick Morley and Tom Lemon and Mike Davies and Paul Biggins could not add to the score as Walmer lost 8-1. Despite this reverse Walmer are likely to finish in a creditable mid-table position in their first season in Division One following last season’s promotion.

Walmer men’s B beat Bradshaw A at Mosley Avenue 6.5/2.5 to stay near the top of Division Three. There will be added pressure on all the teams as holiday commitments take effect, but the B squad ought to finish in the top two to clinch promotion.

The men’s C team were at home to Hawkshaw D with hopes of promotion still in their sights in Division Six.

Julian Nuttall and Luke Blackburn won their three sets to put Walmer on track and John Biggins and Wyn Lees added 2.5. With the addition of another set, Walmer’s 6.5-2.5 win saw them top the league, but as their rivals have games in hand it will go down to the last matches to decide who takes the league honours.
