In their first competitive game of the season, Bury took on Colne & Nelson in the Lancashire Cup.

Bury dominated possession in the early stages, scoring a penalty through Adam Heath.

Prop Jake Greenhalgh added a try soon after, fending off two defenders to ground the ball neatly in the corner, with Heath adding the conversion.

Bury continued to apply the pressure and Alex English charged down a clearing kick to score Bury’s second try of the afternoon, with Heath again converting.

Bury took their foot off the gas and allowed Colne & Nelson back into the game with a penalty and a converted try.

Bury extended their lead when man-of-the-match scrum half, Karl Simpson was able to use his size advantage to muscle through the stretched defence and race over the line. Heath again converted.

After the half time break, Colne & Nelson enjoyed a period of possession, scoring a converted try.

With Heath continuing his scoring from two more penalties, Bury finished the afternoon with Mark Campbell going in under the posts for another converted try to secure a quarter-final place.

Bury are away to Colne & Nelson in their first league game on Saturday.
