BURY Broncos came from behind at Pilkington Recs with a try blitz that helped secure play-off football for the second consecutive season.

The Broncos, who started the day in fourth place, went into their final match of the North West Men’s League Division Three campaign knowing a win against fifth-placed Pilkington would secure their place in the play-offs.

But after a tough opening, when both defences were on top, the Recs rocked Bury with two quick converted tries to take a 12-0 lead.

Despite the setback, Broncos hit back in fine style as Warren Bluer and Joe Wilkinson both crossed the line twice.

Further tries from Joe Galpin, captain Mark Brocklehurst and Blake Roberts, who also added five conversions, then put the Broncos firmly in the driving seat.

At the other end of the field, Bury’s defence proved impenetrable for the rest of the game as they held Pilkington out, despite being reduced to 12 men for the final 20 minutes following Ant Garside’s red card for a professional foul.

Bury now take on table-topping Orrell St James in the semi-finals, who knocked them out at the same stage last year.
