FOUR Radcliffe AC members battled freezing rain and icy wind in the South East Lancashire Cross Country League last weekend.

Lachlan Burke coped with the exposed course at Tandle Hill above Oldham to finish third in the under-17s men’s race on Saturday.

In deteriorating conditions as Storm Deirdre swept the country, Katie Percival continued her good cross-country form to finish 11th in the ladies’ race while Karen Doherty was 65th.

Neal Emmerson was also a fine 11th in the men’s race, the second of four fixtures in the league.

Conditions were better for Andy Haines at The Stoop fell race in Howarth on Sunday.

He clocked 43mins 27secs to finish 78th out of 209 runners.

Several Radcliffe runners got into the festive spirit at the Super Santa Dash Great Run Local at Burrs Country Park.

They dressed up as elves, Santa Claus and even a Christmas pudding, with family members joining in the fun to run either 2k or 5k.

Junior Olivia Whittaker achieved an amazing 12th personal best on the trot at Heaton parkrun.

Despite poor conditions, she ran 27:26.

Also running were Steve Hamer who crossed the line in 23:10.

Other results: Chris Fletcher 24:53, Iain Harris 30:39, Sarah Oxley 38:45, Lucy Dewhurst 38:45.

Mark Williams was first home for the club at Bolton parkrun in 26:03.
